Garam masala can come in powdered or paste forms, but either way, the basic ingredients remain the same. This spice is a powerful antioxidant which supports your digestive system while spicing up your meal and waking up your taste buds.
“Masala” means spices and “garam” means hot, so you can guess how this recipe will go!
Garam Masala Powder Basic Ingredients
- Fennel seeds
- Bay leaves
- Chili pepper
- Dry fry the spices on medium heat on a cast iron skillet.
- With a pestle and mortar, or the back of a sharp knife, crush the spices into a fine powder, taking care to break the peppercorns, clove, and other seeds down well.
- Run the mixture through a fine grinder.
Be sure to store your mixture in an airtight container.
In spite of the hour of preparation and cooking time, this homemade garam masala goes perfectly with our chana masala – an easy and affordable main meal to add to your repertoire of reliable vegan meals.
